Janice Denois Long Ellis, 52, of Panama City, Fla., passed this life Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007.
She fell asleep in death while traveling to Birmingham, Ala. Janice was born March 24, 1955, and raised in Panama City, Fla., to Dorothy Long White (now deceased).
She was preceded in death by a stepfather, the Rev. William White; and her beloved grandmother, Lucinda Long. She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Deacon LeRoy Ellis; a daughter, Janessa L. Ellis of Jacksonville, Fla.; son, Gregory R. Ellis of Panama City, Fla.; stepson and daughter-in-law, William A. Altovise of Augusta, Ga.; two stepgrandchildren, William A. Ellis II and Makhala Ellis; father and stepmother-in-law, Jesse and Elizabeth Ellis Sr. of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; sister and brother-in-law, Bishop Levon and Henrietta Smalls of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; stepsister, Roxie Franklin and Shay Sutton; four uncles, James (Marian), Percy (Christine), Paul and Moses Long; aunts, Gussie Bruce, Frances Brazzell, Nancy Holmes, Thelma Long and Rosa Long; and numerous cousins, friends and co-workers.
Janice was a graduate of Bay High School, Class of 1973; Gulf Coast Community College, Class of 1975; and Florida State University, Class of 1977 (BS), 2005 (MSW, LSW). She provided a loving and caring home while traveling with her husband during his 24 years of military service. She was employed as a therapeutic foster care counselor at Life Management Inc. She previously was employed by Bay District School (Oakland Terrace Elementary School) and Early Education and Care Inc.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ellis will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007, at Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Rev. Joseph McCalister officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 12, 2007. There will be a family hour from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the Battle Memorial Funeral Home chapel.
