Henry died in 1992 of a heart attack. The article from 1973 in the News Herald is how we remember Henry best:
NEWS-HERALD, Panama City, Florida, Tuesday, March 6, 1973 Page SB DAVIS Henry Davis, Bay High running back who set an all-time one-year Bay High and Big Five Conference rushing record of 1,385 yards last season, has been selected for all-America prep school honorable mention by Scholastic Coach, a national publication that makes an annual selection. Davis, who has signed a University of Florida scholarship, was one of only three Florida prep backs named. Waldo Williams, Merritt Island fullback, was named all-America and Leon Bright, tailback of the same team, got honorable mention. Davis is 6-1 and weighs 197 pounds. Bay Coach Joe Hull said: "Henry Davis ranks with Jimmy Barr as two of the greatest backs it has been my privilege to coach. Henry is dedicated, he is humble and he does everything in a superlative manner, I fully expect to see him gain all-America college status and become a star as a pro. Davis is a track star, too. He set a long jump record and ran on three point-scoring relay teams in last Friday's Big Five Relays here.
Henry was another best friend from the 'day....everytime I listen to many of the oldies and old school music...many memories return of the summers of our High School years and it is then that I sit with Henry in the radiance of those warm memories reliving some great times...the 40th will be fun to remember...
Henry was the best athlete I ever had the pleasure of playing with. From our days at Jinks Junior High to Bay High School he was something to watch. It was a pleasure to give him the ball and watch him go. He was also one of my best friends. I still think of him frequently. What a tragic loss.
